Green Tea EGCG and Thermogenesis: The New Formula's Calorie-Burning Ingredient
Of the five newly added ingredients, Green Tea EGCG has the most direct connection to a mechanism most people associate with weight management: burning calories.
What EGCG is
EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) is the most abundant catechin in green tea, a category of antioxidant plant compounds. It's one of the more researched natural compounds in the weight-management category, which is part of why it made the cut in the expanded formula.
The thermogenesis mechanism
Thermogenesis is your body's heat-generating process, which requires burning calories. EGCG is researched for a possible role in modestly inhibiting an enzyme that breaks down norepinephrine, a hormone involved in fat breakdown — potentially extending calorie-burning effects.
What the research actually shows
A frequently cited 2009 meta-analysis by Hursel et al. found a small but statistically significant effect of green tea catechins on body weight versus placebo. "Small but significant" is an accurate summary of this entire research category — real, but modest.
Why it complements rather than replaces the original formula
Apple Cider Vinegar's researched effects center on blood sugar and appetite, not thermogenesis directly. Adding EGCG gives the formula a genuine calorie-burning angle it didn't previously have — a real expansion in mechanism, not a duplicate of what ACV already does.
A caffeine note worth knowing
Green tea extract naturally contains some caffeine alongside EGCG. If you're sensitive to stimulants or already tracking caffeine intake from other sources, this is worth factoring in now that it's part of the daily formula.
